Enshrouded – Steam Deck User Help Guide

Steam Deck Users

I must start by saying that I could not launch the game at all when I first installed it. For those who have been running into the same issues, hopefully this will help you get into the game for the first time with better performance. Here are some of the steps I took to get this game running in desktop mode. I have an average FPS of 30.

You might be able to get away with a lot more in handheld. The game still looks great when playing on the smaller display but I must warn that the FSR2 can make the game look very blurry when playing on a with an external monitor. This could make some of you feel motion sick.

Through Steam Library

Set game to Proton Experimental from Manage > Properties > Compatibility > (Tick) Force The Use Of a Specific Steam Play Compatibility Tool > Proton Experimental

In Game Settings

  1. Display: Resolution (1920 x 1080)
  2. VSync (On)
  3. Limit Framerate in Background (Off)
  4. Anti-Aliasing (FSR2)
  5. FSR2 Quality (Performance)
  6. Texture Resolution (Performance)
  7. Shadow Quality (Performance)
  8. Contact Shadows (Off)
  9. Indirect Lighting (Balance)
  10. Reflections (Balance)
  11. Fog Quality (Performance)
  12. Volumetric Shadow Quality (Off)
  13. SSAO (Off)
  14. Distant Objects (Off)
  15. Voxel Detail Models (Off)
  16. Small Foliage (Off)
  17. Tessellation (Off)
  18. Point Light Shadows (Off)

Do This At Your Own Risk

If you want to install CyroUtilites, you are welcome to as this is what I use for some better performance in certain games. I personally have not found this to be too useful in this game but there are some videos showing you how to do this on YouTube.

I have timestamped this video starting with performance stats then it should move to the installation process:

In your Bios set VRAM to 4GB

Then once in the CryoUtilities just select > Recommended.

On a personal note. This game has fantastic controls for the handheld and even though the performance has to be set to very low graphics, I am still enjoying the game thus far. I am looking forward to hearing some of your feedback.

Apologies if this does not help all of you but hopefully it will help out most of you!

Hope this helps!

My first game was Naughty Dog’s Crash Bandicoot (PlayStation) back in 1996. And since then gaming has been my main hobby. I turned my passion for gaming into a job by starting my first geek blog in 2009. When I’m not working on the site, I play mostly on my PlayStation. But I also love outdoor activities and especially skiing.
