Essences and You Guide

Greetings Realmwalker, this guide is to help you locate which realms to get which essences as well as tips and tricks to getting a few.

There may be some things I missed/got mistaken esp with T3, please feel free to let me know and I will correct the information.

Was gonna name this “Essences and You: A Realmwalker’s Field Guide to Pesky Essence” but man that is a long, long name. Just noticed “Materials and You” and had a laugh. It just works.

This was also just going to be to keep a written note down what realms you get which essence, but I figured if I find tips for farming them I may as well add them too for new folk, but “T0” essence is really the only one that has any nuance to it, so pardon the repetitiveness.

Key Notes

• When I mention “Realms” I generally mean can be gotten from gathering as a chance to drop, or by Fae Puzzles and Survivor “Help” POI.
• Generally speaking, there’s something you can do within the realm mentioned to earn the essence.
• Harvesting Activities are things such as harvesting plant fiber, mining ore nodes/rock nodes, fishing, etc.
• Every essence can be gotten from this, in their appropriate realms. I personally only really find them on harvesting plant fiber, but from what I understand they should be able to be dropped from other things too. Plant fiber harvest tends to be an inefficient way of farming them, however, since it only really drops 1 or 2.
• Killing Bound mobs and skinning creatures you’ve slain also has a fairly good chance of dropping essence, but the amount is pretty low.
• “Crafting” is my catch-all for recipes in the Enchanting Table. The main usage I intend to reference is Infusions, as using higher tier essence for Infusions will craft better infusions, but there are other recipes too.
• I play on Medium difficulty myself, so I am uncertain if rates change, and by how much.
• You can go into your Guidebook and check the Vendor tab. Whatever the vendor uses as their currency is typically what you can earn in that realm!

I’ve not yet gotten to The Watch, so I’m not certain on T3, my SO has though so I’m going off of them.

T0 Essence (Grey)

• Just called “Essence” in game. For repairs*, and purchasing Basic Materials from Vendors
• Gotten From: Abeyance Realm
• Gathering: Extracting from Items, Fishing

Tips:

• You’ll always gather a fairly steady supply of “Plant Fiber (Crude)” while you do other things in the Realms. Extracting these is a pretty good way to make a bunch as you’ll get a lot of plant fiber over your journey.
• Another passive way to make a bunch is to turn Rocks into Rock Marbles. A stack of 99 Rock Marbles will net you 198 Essence. This is good if you’re doing other things at your base and don’t need a workbench. (Should also be enhanced by an Industry minor card?)
• Fishing appears to be a consistent way to get essence, there is also a charm that enhances how often you can get them from fishing.
• Note (*): Repairs currently are bugged and are free.

T1 Essence (Green)

• For upgrading equipment to Uncommon, crafting, and vendors.
• Gotten From: Antiquarian, Astralabe, Provisioner Realms
• Gathering: Completing fae puzzles and Survivor Help POIs, Fae Tower

Tips:

• The Fae Tower POI will get you generally around 100+ish essence, I’ve found generally it’ll be enough to purchase everything from the vendor on its own, but you won’t have a whole lot left over.
• Survivor Helps are 50/50 on if its worth time and effort for essence as some of the construction ones can cost quite a bit. The chest you unlock by helping Survivors generally seems to range between 15-30 ish and is random.
• Fae Puzzles have a chance / will unlock recipes the vendors sell in that level which will help you save in the long run.
• Fishing appears to be a consistent way to get essence, there is also a charm that enhances how often you can get them from fishing.
• Takes x40 Essence to enhance a piece of armor or a weapon/tool; for a full set of just armor/clothing including backpack its x280 essence

T2 Essence (Blue)

• For upgrading equipment to Rare, crafting, and vendors.
• Gotten From: Herbarium, Gloom, and Hunt Realms
• Gathering: Completing fae puzzles and Survivor Help POIs, Fae Tower

Tips:

• Same as T1 but in Herbarium, Gloom, and Hunt Realms

T3 Essence (Purple)

• For upgrading equipment to Epic, crafting, and vendors in The Watch.
• Gotten From: Ascended Realms, Vaults
• Gathering: Completing POIs in Ascended Realms, Completing Vaults

Tips:

• Mostly same as T1 but in “Ascended Realms”
• Running “Vault”s, which is more efficient than Fae Towers in Ascended Realms, but you’ll be playing in a public lobby.
