Carmageddon: Max Damage – Steam Deck Performance Guide

By default the game has badly performance on Steam Deck but there is a way to fix it.

How to Perfect Performance on Steam Deck

Preparation

Go to desktop mode:

  1. Steam
  2. Power
  3. Go to Desktop Mode

When Desktop loaded open the Discover, find ProtonUp-Qt and install it. After installation launch the ProtonUp-Qt and add new version of Proton is “Proton-6.5-GE-2”. When it loaded and added to list of ProtonUp-Qt you can go back to Steam mode.

Configure the Game

  1. Open the game card
  2. Open the Settings (gears icon at right side)
  3. Choose “Properties…”
  4. Choose “Compatibility”
  5. Enable compatibility tool and choose “Proton-6.5-GE-2” in the list

Now you can run the game and get 2-3x more FPS.

My In-Game Settings

Open Settings > Video in the game menu.

  1. Resolution 1152×720
  2. Quality “Balanced”

Open Steam Deck settings “•••” at the ride side of Deck.

  1. Performance
  2. Enable Game profile
  3. Lock FPS and refresh rate as 45 (FPS/Hz) – it’s good enough for racing games, imho
  4. Allow tearings
  5. Enable TDP limit to 6
  6. Scaling is FSR, sharp 2

With these settings you can get up to 4 hours.

My first game was Naughty Dog’s Crash Bandicoot (PlayStation) back in 1996. And since then gaming has been my main hobby. I turned my passion for gaming into a job by starting my first geek blog in 2009. When I’m not working on the site, I play mostly on my PlayStation. But I also love outdoor activities and especially skiing.
