Prologue

In this guide I assume the reader knows how to complete the tall tale “A Sunken Pearl”.

Getting Started

To start off you will need one person with the second Sunken Pearl checkpoint. If you don’t have this you’ll have to play the tall tale up to that checkpoint. For both methods you start by playing the tall tale all the way up to the point where you acquire the silver blade key.

The Chest Cycle

For method one with the rate of 8-10 minutes per cycle:

  1. Leave one person in the key room (not the person who has the checkpoint) this person will stay here for the rest of the grind.
  2. Other three will continue on to the silver blade, open the cabin and continue the adventure all the way up to the point where ocean crawlers start spawning onto the silver blades deck.
  3. The person who is holding the checkpoint will leave at this point to reduce the krakens health and ensure he can keep the checkpoint.
  4. Two others kill the kraken and move the sorrow right up to mermaid statue in front of the siren queens throne room and use the mermaid to teleport back to the ship.
  5. The checkpoint holder joins back (he can join back right after the kraken is dead).
  6. The three people who are now on the ship will vote the tall tale down and then vote up the checkpoint.
  7. Once voted up, the 4th person in the key room can take the key and must quickly drop the key inside the kraken room and step back through the bubble barrier before it closes. That person will go back to the key room.
  8. The three on the ship will launch out of the galleons cannons and wait until you see the siren queen dialogue at the bottom of your screen which signals the beginning of the kraken fight. Once you see the dialogue has started you can take the mermaid and be teleported directly into the kraken room.
  9. Now you can repeat from step 2.

For method two with the rate of 12-15 minutes per cycle:

  1. All players play the tall tale up to where ocean crawlers start spawning onto the silver blades deck.
  2. The person who is holding the checkpoint will leave at this point to reduce the krakens health and ensure he can keep the checkpoint.
  3. Others kill the kraken and move the sorrow right up to mermaid statue in front of the siren queens throne room and use the mermaid to teleport back to the ship.
  4. The checkpoint holder joins back (he can join back right after the kraken is dead).
  5. You will now vote the tall tale down and then vote up the checkpoint.
  6. Swim back down to the sunken kingdom with the siren heart and repeat from step 1.

Selling and Transporting

When you are ready to sell your chests instead of going back to the ship via the mermaid statue you will invite the checkpoint holder back. Then you will move every chest into the siren queens throne room but remember to have one person holding the bubble door open so you don’t get any chests stuck outside the room.

After killing the siren queen the chests will be moved through a few more bubble doors with the same safe method until everything is outside the palace. While moving the chest do not break the siren statues as this will complete the tale and make the checkpoint holder lose said checkpoint.

Now that everything is out you just swim each chest up to the boat but you better have one person bailing water as these chests do not stop crying and filling up your ship. When everything is up you’re ready to harpoon the chests and sail to the nearest outpost to sell everything!

Last Words

This (especially method one) is by far the fastest and most consistent way to farm the Chest of Sorrow. Doing Gold Hoarder voyages can grant of the chest and progress other commendations at the same time but if your sole purpose is to get the Hoarder of Treasured Tears commendation then this method is better.
