Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness – How to Fix the Grass Pop-in

How to fix the annoying and weirdly aggressive grass LODs. It’s very easy.

Make Sure the Game Is Closed

This won’t work on the fly, the game needs to be closed.

Go to This Directory and Edit This File

Windows:

C:\users[Your User Name]\Documents\My Games\MadeInAbyss-BSFD\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\Engine.ini

Linux:

~/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/compatdata/1324340/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/MadeInAbyss-BSFD/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor/Engine.ini

Then, add this underneath the block of paths.

[SystemSettings]
r.StaticMeshLODDistanceScale=0.2
r.LODDistanceScale=0.2
foliage.LODDistanceScale=0
foliage.ForceLOD=0

Then save this config file, and start the game. No more morphing grass and bushes!

This should theoretically come with a performance cost, but even with my NVIDIA GTX 1660 and most setting on epic or cinematic, I didn’t notice any difference.

This should also work with any other Unreal Engine game.

My first game was Naughty Dog’s Crash Bandicoot (PlayStation) back in 1996. And since then gaming has been my main hobby. I turned my passion for gaming into a job by starting my first geek blog in 2009. When I’m not working on the site, I play mostly on my PlayStation. But I also love outdoor activities and especially skiing.
