WITCH ON THE HOLY NIGHT – Steam Deck Fix Guide

If you have already tried other fixes before, i would recommend clearing the existing Proton prefix by enabling Developer Mode from Steam’s system settings while in Game Mode, and then going back to Witch on the Holy Night, pressing the upper right Start menu button (the three horizontal lines), going to Developer -> delete proton files.

Guide to Fix Steam Deck Issue

  1. Download codec.sh from here and make sure you have Protontricks installed from the Discover flatpak store.
  2. Add PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to the launch options, and select Proton version 6.3-8 in Steam Compatibility settings for the game. do NOT use a GE version.
  3. Run the game once to make sure the prefix is generated.
  4. Open up Protontricks, select Witch on the Holy Night, select default wine prefix, and then run a commandline shell (for debugging).
  5. Once this shell is open, type: sh mf. And you should see the window start downloading some files.
  6. Once this is completed, go back to the game and try it again. the type-moon logo and audio should play, and the video should no longer skip.
