The Planet Crafter – General Tips

General Tips

Note: Credit goes to Monkey

Base Location: The first instinct is to build your base near your drop pod which isn’t recommended. Later on when the planet starts to create water and eventually a lake, the area you start is going to fill up and you’ll need to move your base.

It’s better to start the base up the hill from the beginning to avoid the hassles.

Oxygen: Oxygen canister is good for emergency oxygen but an upgraded Oxygen Tank and shelters scattered around is better.

Wreck Shelters: Build a shelter outside each wreck to help with oxygen levels when exploring them.

If discovered any Blueprint Chips, it’s easy to build the Screens – Blueprint item and research in the shelter, freeing up space to take resources back to base.

Equipment: Always worth the effort to upgrade your equipment like Oxygen Tanks and Backpacks.

Higher Tiers: Better to build the higher Tier version of a building, especially ones that generate power. I don’t deconstruct lower Tier buildings unless I desperately need the resources to build the higher Tier version.

Shelter Trick: If you wish to really explore great distances but worried about Oxygen, you’ll need the Microchip – Deconstruction (if don’t have already) and just carry the resources for a shelter and door (3 Iron, 2 Titanium and 1 Silicon).

When low on Oxygen, build the shelter with the door, go inside and wait for the Oxygen to refill, then simply deconstruct the shelter getting back 100% of the resources.

Water Bottles: Building the Atmospheric Water Collection means you don’t need to harvest Ice to turn into water, it’s ready to drink and stores up to 4 bottles. Eventually the Ice no longer appears due to Terraforming.

Compact Storage: A Recycling machine can break down an item into the core components which I find useful for the Iridium and Uranium Rods. I’ll craft a rod (which uses up 9 resources) and store the rod which uses only 1 storage spot. If I need the Iridium / Uranium then I’ll break it down back into the resources.

I find this is a very efficient way to store ALOT of Iridium and Uranium.

Food: Build at least 2 Food Growers purely to eat. Beans are the ideal type because it offers the most and it’s not used in any crafting.

Build at least 1 Food Grower for the other types and store the harvests into a dedicated locker for crafting later.

Store at least 4 Seeds of each type so you can adjust for demand.

Extractors: Build an Ore Extractor in the Iridium Cave and one in the Aluminium Valley (get about 4-6 Iridium / Aluminum per full box).

Cleanup: Exiting a game removes all resources from meteor storms, so be sure you collected everything from them before exiting. Sometimes resources are inaccessible because of the debris, the rocks SLOWLY despawn so check the area again and it should be less.

My first game was Naughty Dog’s Crash Bandicoot (PlayStation) back in 1996. And since then gaming has been my main hobby. I turned my passion for gaming into a job by starting my first geek blog in 2009. When I’m not working on the site, I play mostly on my PlayStation. But I also love outdoor activities and especially skiing.
