The First Descendant – Guide to Best HDR Experience (Nvidia)

Best HDR Experience for Nvidia Users

By Shizuka.

Since the driver update 565.90 we ware finally able to use this precious RTX HDR in multi monitor setup! Not only that, the games also doesn’t has to be in fullscreen! Having games in borderless is total fine.

All you need is a RTX GPU and the lastest driver and of course a display which supports HDR.

  • After that, do a right click on your desktop and go to display settings.
  • Under Brightness & Color you will find in third row “Use HDR” activate it and do a single click on the row.
  • Over there turn off “Auto HDR”, because RTX HDR is going to replace this function.

(Nevertheless do a HDR Calibration in Windows, there is a free app from Microsoft in Microsoft Store called HDR Calibration).

Open Nvidia App, go to graphics and choose the game, you want to use this filter. Scroll down to “Driver Settings” and activate RTX HDR.

Now you can start the game, leave HDR in in-game settings off, because the ai doing his work here!

Press Alt+F3 to open the Filters menu (In-game Overlay has to be turned on). Now you should in filters the RTX HDR, on the righ side should be an arrow, click on it. Maybe you have to restart the game once, to be able to adjust the settings there to your desire. I can provide my settings, but KEEP IN MIND every display is different, so my settings may look worse on your display.

My Display: Samsung Neo G8

  • Black Equalizer: 13
  • Picture Mode: Custom
  • Brightness: 25
  • Contrast: 80
  • Sharpness: 60
  • Contrast Enhancer: off

Color:

  • Color Tone: Custom
  • Red: 47
  • Green: 49
  • Blue: 50
  • Gamma: 2
  • Saturation: 50

System:

  • Local Dimming: High

These setting are based on Rtings.com, there are some other well known sites too, but like I said, every display is slightly different and for mine particularly was their ones best fitting in my opinion.

RTX HDR Settings:

  • Peak Brightness (nits): 1700
  • Middle Greys (nits): 50 (I often play around with this one depending on game)
  • Contrast (%): 100
  • Saturation (%): 100

So these are my RTX HDR Settings for TFD, again tastes and especially displays are different even if same model! To emphasize last time —in-game hdr leave it on off.

My first game was Naughty Dog’s Crash Bandicoot (PlayStation) back in 1996. And since then gaming has been my main hobby. I turned my passion for gaming into a job by starting my first geek blog in 2009. When I’m not working on the site, I play mostly on my PlayStation. But I also love outdoor activities and especially skiing.
