My route was:

1. East side, painter, got the task.
2. West side, old soldier (threatening challenge), spent 20 to buy him a beer, he left.
3. North till the market (perception challenge).
4. East side, thief (stealth challenge).
5. North till church (charisma challenge).
6. North till graveyard (knowledge challenge).
7. Back to thief, confront girl instead of just stealing the painting (the option to confront doesn’t exist if you don’t hear the story from the priest in church).
8. Back to the painter, they are reunited, when you leave them old soldier confronts you with a gun but gets killed.

There was also old woman west of market that I think unlocked some render but she should not could for progression, I think.
