Salt and Sanctuary – Optimization Guide

Framerate issues? Lag? Input delay? Lets fix that! This guide goes deep into ways to optimize Salt and Sanctuary, more than what the in game configuration lets you!

Configuration!

The in game configuration doesnt let the player adjust many features, you can change the resolution a little bit and decide if you want to play in fullscreen, window or borderless mode, but we can do more than that!

We are going to the folder where Salt and Sanctuary is alocated, most of the time it will be:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Salt and Sanctuary

If you dont want to navigate that much, you can just go to steam, right-click a game and select Properties from the context menu. In the Properties window, go to the Local Files tab and click Browse Local Files. After this, we will open the “config” folder and open the “config” file.

This will open a text document where we can edit some things that will make our game run more smoothly, for example, we can choose resolutions that the game originally would not support (I dont recommend you choosing too low resolution, because some assets are thought to run at a certain resolution, also try to go for resolutions close to 16:9 displays), when the resolution is lower, the game will run more smoothly! But if your resolution is too low we recommend you to change the “fullscreen” option where:

  • 0 = Window
  • 1 = Fullscreen
  • 2 = Borderless window

Also, for a lower input delay and even more framerate you can desactivate Vsync, you can do this by changing the “Vsync” value to 0.

The other things is recommended to not edit and would affect much the performance anyways.

My first game was Naughty Dog’s Crash Bandicoot (PlayStation) back in 1996. And since then gaming has been my main hobby. I turned my passion for gaming into a job by starting my first geek blog in 2009. When I’m not working on the site, I play mostly on my PlayStation. But I also love outdoor activities and especially skiing.
