Hero Tale – Ranged Guide (Basic)

Ranged Guide

By M8troid.

Bows to Use:

  • Slingshot (from Brats)
  • Toy bow (from Oscar) (In early runs where you can’t get 1200 bow fast)
  • 1200 copper Bow (from Oscar)
  • Long Bow (from city market)
  • Vine Bow (from Archer Cultist)
  • Compound Bow (from Inventor)

Arrows to Use:

  • Stone Arrows (from Oscar): These are used in the beginning and for Beggars in Slums.
  • Steel Arrows (from City Market): These are used instead of cool bolts when possible to save copper.
  • Cool Bolts (from Ezra): These are used for pushing the limits, aka harder tiles for more XP. Also used to kill the hard enemies like prince and suspicious guard.

Adjust between arrows as needed to push/farm tiles or save money.

Farming Locations for Ranged:

  • Imps territory (Use Bush Bow if you get it instead of slingshot if you do not have 1200 bow yet)
  • Cave’s entrance
  • Farmer’s Hut (Go here immediately, if you can afford 1200 bow with ascension rewards.)
  • Pirate’s Cove
  • Waterfall
  • Slums (Kill only beggars with stone arrows)
  • Chilly Path (Farm trolls)
  • Woodfolk Circle (Farm here for money before Wealthy)
  • Gremlin Nests (Farm only if possible, bad money good XP.)
  • Wealthy District (Farm as soon as you can, when you can kill Mercenary)
  • Dark forest (Worse than necromancers but don’t need to run from one enemy)
  • Shadow Temple (Farm only necromancers, run from Skeletons) (Can kill necromancers earlier with thunder bolt, but you need to jump back to previous tiles between kills)

Try always having enough arrows to farm up to the next level.

Spells:

  • Master all spells as soon as possible.
  • Use heal early for extra magic exp.

Tips for Lower Runtime:

  • Do not die!
  • If your Hp/Mp are not full (Runtime going), you should be actively fighting. Only go to shops or otherwise non-fighting activities when runtime is paused.
  • Try to really optimize your money spending. For example, go with strategy 1 below that does not use goggles.
  • Some people might find it lucrative to use boom boom arrows on Guard’s Captain, instead of Prince.

Tips for Prince and Last Boss

Prince:

The prince will occasionally buff his own Charge. When this is active, and he attacks, he will do a flurry dealing massive damage. We want to stop that. This can be done 2 ways: first being the mastered ice spell, where it debuffs the Charge and he attacks normally. The second way is to time a mastered thunder spell to stop him from attacking and hoping the buff runs out before the second attack.

For prince ranged strategy, there are multiple ways to do him based on dark tree and levels. Here are a few options, you are welcome to experiment to see which one works for you.

For all strategies, I suggest you use either full Carapean armor or Inventor goggles with the rest Carapean armor. The compound bow is best, but vine bow is doable if you don’t want to venture into the Ice mountains. You definitely want to use cool bolts the entire fight to lessen the amount of tapping/clicking that is already a bit intensive. (Can switch to gremlin when he reaches you if you find that helps).

For the fight itself, spell and consumable timing is very important. And here is where there are different strategies (For all strategies using power blast is optional depending on mana regen and the damage the spell does).

If you’re struggling, even if your spell timing stops Prince from executing his flurry attack, he still deals a lot of damage. You can mitigate this by equipping Defence gear, such as the chain mail set. Swap to that when he reaches you and starts doing damage.

  • Use Poison + Ice on auto. Ice auto will make it so that prince’s first buff runs out before he reaches you. For the second buff, you want to use thunder at the moment he is about to hit you. And before his third buff, he should either be defeated or you should have a second ice spell. I noticed this strategy works well with full Carapean (No goggles)
  • Poison on auto. (His first buff will be wasted when he’s moving towards you) Use Thunder for his attack during the second buff. And use Ice for the third and last buff. I noticed this strategy works well with inventor goggles.

Last Boss:

For the last boss, you want to start with Carapean armor + Compound/Vine with Cool Bolts. This is because until he reaches you, he can only deal magic damage, which completely ignores armor. However, as soon as he reaches you, you need to change to full Defence gear. I use the Chain mail set, the Enchanted sword, and the Plate shield. This is definitely enough; however, if you have gotten any sturdy gear pieces, use them.

Use poison on auto. You can play around with Power Blast, Ice, and Thunder depending on mana, but it is definitely doable without them.

He has 3 spells: Poison (60 damage over time), Fireball (200 damage), and Thunder (1500 damage). The 1500 damage from thunder happens once after 1 poison and 1 fireball attack. You need to have over 1500 health when he does this and then be able to heal up afterward. (He shoots a fireball for 200 right after the Thunder attack, so be cautious.) After this, he will keep using his mana on fireballs. Once he reaches you, and you change into Defence gear, heal spell on auto and consumables like major health potions or health ectoplasm should mean you can survive until they run out. So just keep poison on auto and slowly tick his health down while focusing on surviving completely.

That concludes the guide, hope you found it helpful!
