Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm – Guide to Support Combo and Downed Strike Achievements

A step by step guide to obtain the Finish with a Support Combo! and the Finish with a Downed Strike! achievements.

Support Combo and Downed Strike Achievements Guide

Introduction

So. I’ve been having quite the trouble with both the Finish with a Downed Strike! and the Finish with a Support Combo! achievements. The first one because of how little damage it deals; the second because the game never bothers to explain what is a Support Combo in the first place. Hopefully, this guide will help achievement hunters to get these two tricky achievements.

Finish with a Downed Strike!

Ah, the famous downed strike. Never used, except for these few ‘Hit an enemy a couple of times with it’ bonus objectives. Obviously, if you try to go for it in a real battle, you’re gonna to be really lucky. I prefer making my own luck:

  • Go into Free Battle mode, with two controllers plugged in.
  • Pick Kakashi as your character, and anyone as your opponent (I had Sasuke).
  • Set the handicap 9/1.

Now, for the battle. You obviously want to put your second controller away, as you mercilessly beat on your defensless opponent. Move up to him, and do the standard Kakashi combo (no directional input); this should take away almost exactly 1 bar. Use shurikens to whittle the remainder away, then repeat for the 2nd bar.

For the 3rd bar, however, throw a few shurikens before the combo. I had to throw twice (6 shurikens in total). Then, do the combo one last time, move up to your downed opponent, and voilà, achievement number one.

Finish with a Support Combo!

So, what exactly is a support combo? You might start trying to combo off your supports, or have both hit at the same time. Don’t. It’s a lot simpler than that.

It probably happened a few times in Mission Mode. Sometimes, when you finish a combo that pushes the opponent away at an angle, you’ll have a prompt to press a shoulder button. If you succeed, your support kicks the opponent for extra damage; that’s a support combo. As for the downed strike, it requires setup:

  • Go into Free Battle mode, with two controllers plugged in.
  • Pick Naruto as your character, and anyone as your opponent (I had Sasuke).
  • Set the handicap 6/4.

Now, for the battle. You obviously want to put your second controller away, as you mercilessly beat on your defensless opponent. Move up to him, and do the downwards Naruto combo (start, then press down on the joystick during it); this should take away roughly half of his first bar. Repeat it 3 times, and your opponent should be on its last bar.

At this point, you want the 3rd bar to be roughly at 75%; whack him a few times if needed. Then, do a Naruto sideways combo. As opposed to the downwards version, this will propel your opponent in the air, at the right angle for a support combo. Press the prompt to finish your opponent.
