Mercenaries Guide
Welcome to an Alien Planet
This guide is for newcomers to the game and for experienced players who want to make their lives easier.
For Beginners
An action horror shooter in which you can play as two sides: mercenaries and aliens. Each side has its own objectives and development line. Try both sides to better understand your preferences and to view the game from both perspectives.
Mercenaries
You are a mercenary who is sent to different locations to search for various items: both quest items and materials that need to be taken out of the location. You have a limited inventory and weight that you can carry, which forces you to balance the value of the items you take. At the time of writing, you have 25 slots in your backpack, 5 in your quick access pocket, and 5 safe cells that don’t burn if you die in a match (not all items can be put in these cells, such as weapons, ammo, and quest items). Each type of item has its own peculiarities: not all of them stack, and not all of them can be placed in safe slots. With all these inconveniences, you are also competing with other mercenaries who are interested in your pockets, as well as with hostile entities whose task is to prevent you from leaving the location.
Weapons and light will help you fight off other mercenaries and aliens. The game has a wide range of melee and firearms with different behaviors, and they are very effective against mercenaries and mutants who walk around like zombies. However, there are also aliens against whom standard weapons are not as effective. Against them, you need to use different types of lighting: from flashlights activated by the “T” key to ultraviolet lamps or light traps. Don’t forget that killing an alien is not a panacea; they respawn every 30 seconds (at the time of writing).
After you have collected the items and managed to fight off the mercenaries and aliens, you need to get out of the location in time. You have 30 minutes from the start of the match to do so. The exit locations are static, but their availability is random: there is at least 1 elevator that arrives 2 minutes after pressing the button, and a small freight elevator that you can use to get out under certain conditions (up to 10 kg in inventory).
Once you’ve managed to get your loot out, you can sell it or craft useful tools from the materials. Selling certain types of items is available from specific merchants, which also increases the reputation of that merchant. Items are quite strongly associated with rooms, so you won’t often find ointments or medicines among tools. Accordingly, there may be quite rare statuettes or other antiques in the recreation areas.
Dangers from Strangers for Mercenaries:
- Egg trap – an egg placed by an alien that is triggered when you get too close, dealing damage and preventing you from using items.
- Poison spit – deals damage and applies poison, can put out flyers that are on fire.
- Poison Cloud – a cloud that blocks your view and deals damage, you can run through it if you are sure of the direction you are going.
- EMP – an electromagnetic pulse shuts down all powered devices and blocks switches on the walls.
- Ventilation – intruders can hide and move through it.
- Invisibility – strangers can move in invisibility and not be damaged by light. They can be brought out of invisibility by inflicting physical damage.
- Sonic Shock – sound waves that disorient you, slowing down your movements and reversing them.
Aliens
You will play as an alien creature that appears in dark locations and loves the darkness because you literally glow with light. Your task is to prevent mercenaries from taking items from the location, that is, to kill them. You have a set of abilities that will help you with this, but they require energy. You can get it from eggs that are scattered throughout the location and regularly spawn, and from electrical cables lying on the floor and hanging from the ceiling. You can also move through the ventilation system, which is not available to mercenaries and greatly accelerates movement and the ability to create traps.
It’s better to experience how to use the abilities yourself, but the spit has a very important feature: it can extinguish flares that mercenaries set on fire. You take more damage from light and less from weapons (but don’t underestimate them). Your task is to catch mercenaries in the dark or turn off their light using various methods and abilities to open a window for attack.
You can make mistakes in the match; you will be reborn every 30 seconds after death. In the future, the developers have promised interesting modifications for the aliens, which will diversify their gameplay and playstyle, but at the time of writing, the mutations are not yet available.
As you can see, there are various interactive objects on the map, some static, some changing from match to match.
- Available exit – an exit for which you meet the conditions.
- Inaccessible exit – an exit for which you do not meet the conditions, maybe you are overweight or need additional equipment.
- Stairs between floors
- Elevator between floors
- Laptop with data storage – sold at the exit for 21k (at the time of writing)
- A warehouse box with loot – located in a large warehouse, it opens after 3 minutes of activation, and the system informs you about it
- Airdrop – a similar icon in airdrop before it appears you will hear the sound of a helicopter
