Cyberpunk 2077 – Playing for Time Walkthrough

This is a walkthrough for the first Main Job, or mission, in Cyberpunk 2077, Playing for Time.

Playing for Time Walkthrough

Approach the stranger. A red figure in a broken digital environment moves like a ghost through the halls. Follow as he does. He’ll stop at a long hall and you can give him a tap on the shoulder, ending the sequence.

Follow the prompts to instruct V to dig themselves out of the garbage. If things look crazy, that’s correct. V isn’t doing so hot. Crawl through the trash until Dex and another person approach, dragging V away. You’ll have a lot to watch here, and Dex won’t be joining you. The man turns out to be Takemura, the former Arasaka boss’ bodyguard. V speaks, Takemura hits. V wakes in and out of consciousness out of his car until Takemura gives V an air hypo. Use it. He’s hurt and needs your help.

Assassins on motorcycles attack. With a gun in hand you’ll need to take out the one on the right. The one on the left pursues harder. The best way to damage your pursers is to aim low. The final of the tree loses his bike and whips out some mantis blades instead. V’s marksmanship isn’t what it used to be with their wounds, but with enough damage, you’ll fend off the assassin for a bit.

Takemura will pin the guy with the car, but you have the opportunity to finish them off.

V and Takemura are injured severely and need the attention of a Ripperdoc. Steer the conversation as you’d like, but it’ll end with you calling Delamain. You might be outside Delamian’s service area but picks them up anyway.

You can put down your controller for a minute. You’ll see flashes of V’s rescue and Vik until V finally comes to. V describes the Johnny scene. Viktor proceeds to explain that those emotions and scenes were memories provided by the Relic.

V and Johnny Silverhand are inseparable due to the Relic’s programming, and V doesn’t have much time to be V. Soon, Silverhand’s personality will take over and Viktor doesn’t know how to stop it.

Misty will take V home where you can chat with her about the situation and Jackie. She’ll leave V with two sets of pills: one will slow Silverhand’s takeover while the other embraces it. Get some rest. V will look at the bullet trinket before conking out.

V awakes to an angry Johnny. Get up. Talk to Silverhand and attempt to leave the apartment. Johnny pushes V back and the two recognize they’re undeniably connected. Johnny forces V to mess with the chip, making for another momentary blackout. Johnny gets aggressive. V tries to take the blockers only to be assaulted by Johnny. Crawl toward the pills to silence the ghost.

Taking Control

V wakes in the shower. You have several optional objectives like put clothes on (somehow optional), check your email, find something to eat, and stock up on ammo. As If you work through those optional tasks in order a waypoint will move around the room to the next optional task. When V leaves the apartment, they’ll get a call from Takemura. He wants to meet at a place called Tom’s Diner, which isn’t too far away.

You can head straight there, but you should consider cleaning up some quick side quests.

New Side Jobs

The first that pops up is called Human Nature. You can only do part of this quest now and it’s in your building. You need to grab V’s car anyway, right? All you need to do for that one is take an elevator down to the garage and enter V’s car. Delamain will be in contact after.

As you leave the building, you should get a message from Jackie’s mom, Mama Welles. Give her a call to get this mission started. What happens in this mission actually depends on a previous choice you made.

Now, back to Playing for Time. Go to Tom’s Diner and you’ll find Takemura in a booth not far from the entrance. Sit down.

Takemura wants V to help him on his quest for revenge. He doesn’t think Evelyn or even the “creator” of the Relic will be able to help V, but he want to work with V to find a solution. This conversation leaves V with two main missions to follow: Automatic Love, a quest with Evelyn and Judy, and Ghost Town, a job that starts at The Afterlife with Johnny’s old associate, Rogue.

Speak of the devil, Johnny takes Takemura’s seat after he leaves Tom’s Diner. He’s thought things over and considers them square. He and V had to deal with each other’s startling mess, and instead of killing V, Johnny would like to work together. V isn’t having it, though they don’t have much of a choice.

Now that you’re done with the mission, you can run off to Automatic Love or Ghost Town.

We recommend taking this time to clear some Side Jobs in Watson instead, or just drive around and see what the rest of Night City has to offer now that the lockdown has lifted.
