The chronological timeline of the Assassin Creed game series.

Intro

The full chronological timeline of all the main game titles in the Assassin’s Creed series. This list is only exclusive to the main titles excluding DLC content, comics, books, films and series.

Ancient Greece

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

5th Century B.C.

The main narrative is set in the years 431–422 BC and tells a mythological history of the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta. Players control a male or female mercenary (Ancient Greek: μίσθιος misthios) who fights on both sides of the conflict as they attempt to find their family. The modern-day portion of the story is set in the 21st century and continues from the events of Origins, as Layla Hassan, now an Assassin agent, searches for Atlantis and a powerful artifact it houses.

Ancient Egypt

Assassin’s Creed Origins

1st Century B.C.

Principally set in Egypt, near the end of the Ptolemaic period (49–43 BC), the story follows a Medjay named Bayek of Siwa and his wife Aya, and explores the origins of the centuries-long conflict between the Hidden Ones—forerunners to the Assassin Brotherhood—who fight for peace by promoting liberty, and The Order of the Ancients—forerunners to the Templar Order—who desire peace through the forced imposition of order.

Age of the Vikings

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

9th Century (872–878 AD)

Principally set in the years 872–878 AD, the game recounts a fictional story during the Viking expansions into the British Isles. Players control Eivor Varinsdottir, a Viking raider who becomes embroiled in the centuries-old conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood, who fight for peace and liberty, and the Templar Order, who desire peace through control.[c] The modern-day portion of the story is set in the 21st century and follows Layla Hassan, an Assassin who relives Eivor’s memories so as to find a way to save the Earth from destruction.

The Third Crusade

Assassin’s Creed

1191 AD

The plot is set in a fictional history of real-world events, taking place primarily during the Third Crusade in the Holy Land in 1191. The player character is a modern-day man named Desmond Miles who, through a machine called the “Animus”, relives the genetic memories of his ancestor, Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad. Through this plot device, details emerge about a centuries-old struggle between two factions: the Assassin Brotherhood, who fight for peace with free will, and the Knights Templar, who desire peace through control. Both factions seek an artifact called the “Apple of Eden”, which can be used to control minds, with the Assassins wishing to destroy it before it can be used for evil. The 12th century portion of the game follows Altaïr, a high-ranking member of the Assassins, who after breaking the tenets of the Brotherhood during a botched mission, must assassinate a select group of targets to regain his lost honor.

The Italian Renaissance

Assassin’s Creed II

1459 – 1499 AD

The framing story is set in the 21st century and follows Desmond Miles as he relives the genetic memories of his ancestor Ezio Auditore da Firenze to uncover the mysteries left behind by an ancient race known as the First Civilization in the hope of ending the Assassin-Templar conflict. The main narrative takes place at the height of the Renaissance in Italy during the late 15th century, and follows Ezio’s journey as an Assassin while seeking revenge against those responsible for the death of his father and brothers.

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood

1499 – 1507 AD

The framing story is set in the 21st century and features series protagonist Desmond Miles who, with the aid of a machine known as the Animus, relives the memories of his Assassin ancestor, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, to find a way to avert the 2012 apocalypse. The main story takes place immediately after Assassin’s Creed II, and follows Ezio in 16th century Rome as he attempts to restore the Assassin Order, and eliminate his enemies: the Borgia family.

Assassins Creed: Revelations

1511 – 1524 AD

The framing story is set in the 21st century and features the series protagonist Desmond Miles who, with the aid of a machine known as the Animus, relives the memories of his Assassin ancestors to find a way to avert the 2012 apocalypse. The main story follows Ezio Auditore da Firenze (the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed II and Brotherhood) in 16th century Constantinople as he attempts to unlock the secret vault of Altaïr Ibn-LaʼAhad (the protagonist of the first game) using disc-like artifacts containing the latter’s memories.

Golden Age of Piracy

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

18th Century (1712 – 1722 AD)

The framing story is set in the 21st century and depicts the player as an employee of Abstergo Industries (the modern-day incarnation of the Templars), who becomes caught in their conflict with the Assassins. The main story is set in the 18th century Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy, and follows notorious Welsh pirate Edward Kenway, grandfather and father of Assassin’s Creed III protagonist Ratonhnhaké:ton and antagonist Haytham Kenway, respectively, who stumbles upon the Assassin-Templar conflict. A major plot element concerns the attempted establishment of an independent Pirate republic in the Caribbean.

The American Revolution

Assassin’s Creed: Rogue

18th Century (1752 – 1760 AD)

The framing story is set during the 21st century and depicts the player as an employee of Abstergo Industries (the modern-day incarnation of the Templars). The main plot is set in the mid-18th century during the Seven Years’ War, and follows Shay Patrick Cormac, an Irish American Assassin-turned-Templar who hunts down former members of his Brotherhood after becoming disillusioned with their tactics.

Assassin’s Creed III

18th Century (1754 – 1783 AD)

The framing story is set in the 21st century and features series protagonist Desmond Miles who, with the aid of a machine known as the Animus, relives the memories of his ancestors to find a way to avert the 2012 apocalypse. The main story is set in the 18th century, before, during and after the American Revolution from 1754 to 1783, and follows Desmond’s half-English, half-Mohawk ancestor, Ratonhnhaké:ton aka Connor, as he fights the Templars’ attempts to gain control in the colonies.

The French Revolution

Assassin’s Creed: Unity

1776 – 1808 AD

The framing story is set in the 21st century and features an unnamed and unseen protagonist, who joins the Assassins as an initiate to help them locate the corpse of an 18th century Sage before Abstergo (the modern-day incarnation of the Templars). The main story is set in Paris during the French Revolution and follows Assassin Arno Victor Dorian and his efforts to expose the true powers behind the Revolution.

The Industrial Revolution

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate

1868 AD

The framing story is set in the 21st century and follows the same unnamed and unseen protagonist from Assassin’s Creed Unity, who helps the Assassins locate an artifact hidden in London. The main story is set in Victorian era London and follows twin Assassins Jacob and Evie Frye as they navigate the corridors of organised crime, and take back the city from Templar control.
