Animal Crossing: New Horizons – How to Get Wheat

This section will tell you everything you need to know about How to Get Wheat, including where to buy it, how to unlock Leif, Kapp’n island tours, and how to turn Wheat into Flour and Whole-wheat Flour after you’ve completed it.

What is Wheat?

Wheat is a plant that can be grown in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 Update. At a stove, it can be refined into Flour and Whole-wheat Flour for cooking.

To grow Wheat, you must first plant Wheat Starts, which can be found or purchased.

How to Get Wheat Starts

Leif sells wheat seedlings. When he visits your island, he sets up shop outside your Resident Services Building, or you can find him at Harv’s Island Plaza.

Speak to the Lloid who mentions “a botany expert with the greenest of thumbs” and pay 100,000 Bells to unlock him at the Plaza. Wait a day, and he’ll be selling various seeds, bushes, and flowers. Leif’s stock changes weekly, so if he doesn’t have Wheat in stock, you’ll have to come back to the Plaza in a few days to check. He charges 280 Bells for a single Wheat Start and 1,400 Bells for a set of five.

Wheat can also be found on tours of the Kapp’n islands. If you pay Kapp’n 1,000 Nook Miles, he will take you to a randomly generated island full of various materials, one of which could be Wheat.

You can only visit a mystery island once per day, so if you land on one that doesn’t have Wheat growing on it, you’ll have to wait until the next day to try again.

How to Grow Wheat

Take your Wheat Starts and a section of land on your island where you’d like to plant them to grow Wheat. Farming sections are popular among players, but they can be placed in any grassy area.

It’s easier to plan out your planting placement for flowers and bushes by digging a hole first, but you don’t have to. It simply prevents it from being placed in the incorrect location, saving you the trouble of having to move it.

To plant one, simply open your inventory and click on your Wheat Starts, then “Plant 1.” If you want to make flour, you’ll need five wheat plants to make five bags, so make sure you plant at least five starts.

It’s also a good idea to water the seeds every day until they’ve grown to their full size, which takes four days. You don’t have to water them, but if you do, your harvest will be larger on the fourth day. After you’ve harvested your Wheat, it will take two days for your planted starts to produce more Wheat.

How to Get Flour and Whole-wheat Flour

You’ll need to get the Flour recipe once you’ve gotten your Wheat. To do so, go to your Resident Services Building’s Nook Stop and pay 2,000 Nook Miles for the “Be A Chef! DIY Recipes+” upgrade. You’ll get the recipe, as well as the DIY for the Stonework Kitchen, which you’ll need to make if you don’t already have one.

Go to Nook’s Cranny and buy the “Basic Cooking Recipes” DIY set from the cupboard for 4,980 Bells to get the Whole-wheat Flour recipe.

Now that you’re ready, click on the Kitchen and place it in your house if you haven’t already. Then there’s Flour and Whole-wheat Flour, which both cost five Wheat to make. Every time you make a bag, you’ll get ten more.
