This guide is for Euro Truck Simulator 2. It will show you how to get started if you are going to play for the first time.
About the Game
Euro Truck Simulator is about driving trucks across Europe making money transporting various cargo from one place to another. As you complete deliveries, you will earn money and experience. The money you get, you can use to customize your truck and or build more garages to expand your company. There are a variety of trucks to choose from and a variety of countries and cities to visit. You also start your own transportation company and to have it grow and make you money. You get more money from hiring more drivers and having them increase their skills as they drive for you.
Travel thousands of kilometers, hire dozens of drivers, deliver dozens of different types of cargo, and travel across several countries. That's the name of the game, so get out there and start driving.
The first thing you want to do after launching the game is to create a profile.
This is where you pick a name for your avatar as well as choose, picture, preferred truck design, company logo, and language you want to use. Also name the company you'll be in charge of and if you want to have the profile on steam cloud. After you do that, then you select the control method you will be using to drive the truck.
This can be a keyboard and mouse, some type of controller, or the use of a steering wheel. It all depends on what you have and what you prefer to use when driving vehicles in video games. Then the game will have you select the type of gearbox to use and the city to put your company HQ in to start your journey.
The type of gearbox you use again depends on what you have and what you are comfortable with. The simple gearbox option just means the game does it all for you. So when you start accelerating, the game will automatically put it in drive and take care of shifting along with going into reverse and parking. Real automatic is where you tell it to go into drive, park, neutral, or reverse but the game still controls whether or not you shift up or down just like in a vehicle with an automatic transmission. The sequential and H shifter options have to do with actually shifting up and down yourself if you have the compatible equipment set up to do it. After that, you can choose to go through the tutorial and you are all done with the initial setup. You will have access to more controls through the main menu if you choose the options menu.
From there you can choose the keys & buttons selection which is where you can assign functions to keys on the keyboard or buttons on your controller. The keyboard and mouse option is where you go to setup your xbox controller or keyboard more if you are using either of those.
The controls selection is where to go if you have a steering wheel and shifter setup.
The graphics, audio, and game play settings are also found in the options menu should you need to change any of those. The audio selection is where you go to turn on or ff certain sounds and to change volume level.
Tune the graphics for the game in the graphics selection to the needs of the computer system you have in case your system cannot handle the high graphic settings that the game can go to. But if you want the highest graphics possible and your system can handle it, then this is where to do it.
The game play selection in the options menu is where you can select things like toggling fatigue simulation, traffic offense, time zones and others. You can also adjust brake intensity, suspension stiffness, truck and trailer stability in this option as well as others related to driving your truck. This is also where you can setup the regional settings like the language you prefer, the names of cities you see on the map, and the type of money you use in game.
That is what you need to know to set up your profile, controls, and graphics. From there you can start trucking and start expanding your company along with making a unique truck for yourself. While you can drive aimlessly throughout the open world and explore what's there; you do need to make money and the best way to do that is by completing deliveries and expanding your company.
To New Beginnings
After you get set up initially and do the tutorial if you decide to do that, you will start off with one garage that can hold one truck but you have no truck.
Since you have no truck when you first start out, you can only complete deliveries through the quick market selection from choosing the job market option in the main menu, which you can get to by using the escape button on the keyboard by default.
Through the main menu, you can see your profile and company at a glance on the right, the job you are currently on being on the top left corner, and basic game options across the bottom. You can view the status of your profile and your company, buy trucks, trailers, and garages on the right side of the menu. You can save your game, go through game options, look at the world map, accept jobs, look up music, and look at your other profiles if you have any others across the bottom. Any websites related to the game and it's publisher are on the left hand side of the menu. When you are able to buy a truck for yourself, you will then be able to access the freight market selection in the job market option of the main menu.
The cargo Market selection is where you go to choose deliveries when you have bought and are using your own trailers. The external contracts and external market selections is for those that set up an account with the World of Trucks Website that the publisher has set up for the game. If you set up an account with World of Trucks, then your Euro Truck Simulator profile will be connected with that account. Doing so gives you more jobs to do and access to contests and community events that the publisher (SCS) sets up for the game.
The quick jobs selection is for when you don't have a truck but you can still get jobs from that after you do get one. You will get less money from quick jobs deliveries but it allows you to discover the map as there are some steam achievements for that if you want or if you want to do a delivery that's not in the city you are in.
That is the basic information to help you get started in the Euro Truck Simulator 2 Game. The tutorial the game provides in the beginning may also help you out. So get out there and get trucking.
