This is a quick guide aimed at explaining why we want to do oil cracking, and how to set up simple oil cracking with some basic circuits. Oil cracking is extremely useful for keeping your production from being blocked, and making sure have access to the chemicals that your base needs!

The idea behind oil cracking is to turn any surplus heavy oil into light oil, then any surplus light oil into petroleum. If you leave any of these resources producing without being consumed, then they will fill up their tanks and block production of any other chemical. This can quickly become an issue if you’re only creating petroleum!
By cracking oil along the heavy – light – petro chain, we can make sure that this doesn’t happen, and the only scenario we get blocked is if we’re not using enough petro – a rare situation to be in!
