Borderlands – Common Issues

Borderlands - Common Issues
Borderlands - Common Issues

This is a list of common issues in the borderlands that I have come across and how to fix them. This list covers Borderlands Enhanced, Borderlands the Pre-Sequel and Borderlands 2 GOTY.

Common Issues Across All 3 Games

Bad AI

Somewhere along the lines, a Windows update screwed with the AI in most video games. I have no idea how to fix this, it eventually just works itself out. In borderlands 2 you will encounter this mostly when trying to play the Mechromancer in which you pet will just do dumb things, such as trying to heal you when you are dead , don’t need healing etc. Often it will not attack enemies and just stsand there scratching it’s “nuts” hehehe..

Unfortunately, since this seems to be directly related to both video card drivers and windows files, it either will fix itself, or you’re stuck with it.

Alternatively , for AMD users, you could just roll back your video card drivers as far back as possible and never update them more than once a year. This will fix various problems with AI and graphics in many Pre 2019 games while also allowing games like DFFNT to actually run. Why this is..in all honesty.. I do not know. I just know it fixes most issues..not all.

Lag on Ultra Quality

Some of you may be wondering why if you meet the recommended specs, exceeding them 10 fold, your game lags out when set to everything ultra..

This is a cell shaded game, and as such requires more power to run at ultra quality, especially with draw distance, shadows and lighting. You will need a pretty powerful modern pc to play these games at ultra quality. It is best to just play the game at default. the HD texture pack for Borderlands 2 also has issues.

My Setup:

  • Radeon Software Version – 19.7.2
  • Radeon Software Edition – Adrenalin 2019
  • Graphics Chipset – AMD Radeon (TM) R9 390 Series
  • Memory Size – 8192 MB
  • Memory Type – GDDR5
  • Core Clock – 1010 MHz
  • Windows Version – Windows 10 (64 bit)
  • System Memory – 24 GB
  • CPU Type – Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5930K CPU @ 3.50GHz

Unless you exceed these specs, just run the game at default settings as even I cannot run the games on Ultra..yet doom 2016 runs at everything set to ultra at close to 150fps.. mhmm..

The issue presents itself more in Borderlands the Pre-sequel where there will be massive slowdown with small groups of enemies when trying to play this game on ultra.

Fatal Errors Upon Launch

You may come across fatal errors, which then list a bunch of files/directories telling you there are problems and refusing to allow you to launch game. This seems to be tied to changing graphics settings while in game instead of through the dedicated launcher. Unfortunately if you come across this issue the only way to get rid of it is to reinstall the game. To avoid this happening always change any graphics settings for the games in the launchers themselves and never make changes to these settings while playing the game.

Crap Loot

Apparently, the developers wanted to pay homage to games like Diablo where instead of just looting an enemy like a chest, loot bursts from it’s corpse exploding all over the place. Unfortunately, this means that sometimes quest items can get stuck in walls or other unreachable places. In order to fix this you simply have to relog and the quest item will be where it needs to be. Unfortunately, any actual loot that has been dropped asides from quest items cannot be retrieved.

Borderlands Enhanced Issues 1 Issue

Flicker/Lines on Screen

You have to set the game’s resolution and refresh rate manually. For some reason the game will not autodetect monitors. This may or may not be directly tied to using an outdated 3dvision monitor, since the drivers for this tech no longer exist.

Borderlands 2 GOTY

Problems with Mechromancer

I have only played the game as this character. There are problems with this character, mostly revolving around your pet’s AI (see section 1). However, outside this the game will run and play great and there is really 1 major issue you need to be aware of.

When trying to hand in the final quest for Commander Lillith’s Fight for Sanctuary, you may find yourself being unable to break the vial. In order to break the vial and proceed you will need to go down to the Character Remake conveniently just around the corner by where you would acess the raid boss. reset your skills, go back to the vial, break the vial, reallocate your points and proceed. YOu cannot beat the expansion with this character without doing this.

Borderlands the Pre-Sequel 1 Serious Issue

Others have been asking about this on the forums, so I will attempt to resolve it for you.

You may have encountered the 3 Quests Zapped 1.0 to Zapped 3.0. These quests send you to kill enemies with specialized weapons given to you by springs in Concordia. However, after killing the enemies the quest will never trigger to “ready to turn in” status.

For some people, this is just a matter of completing one of her other quests and this will trigger to turn on when you go to hand in those. Others, you may just have to complete more of the story and the quest will naturally trigger.

However, for those of you who cannot get this quest to be ready to turn in , here is what you do.

Prep: Backup your save files by copying the save directroy found in my games, borderlands the presequel, willowgame. back this up to a different directory. In steam, right click BLTPS, go to properties, go to updates, set this game to only update when you launch it. Alternatively, you can find this in big screen mode, where it is called “never update this game”..for uh..reasons.. Close Steam. Close the game.

  • Step 1: Go to http://blog.gib.me
  • Step 2: Download Gibbed (the all tools version) for borderlands the presequel. This will download a zip file. Extract the zip file and click on the handsome jack icon.
  • Step 3: Open your save file.
  • Step 4: Select your Character.
  • Step 5: Go to “RAW” find “missionPlaythrough” , doubleclick.
  • Step 6: In the highlighted menu , navigating through the right side. You will see mission list. double click this.
  • Step 7: Find the Mission that is causing you issues , for this case it will be called GD_Co_Zapped.M_Co_Zapped2.
  • Step 8: In the right menu, you will see “status” there are various options here, for this scenario you will want to set it to “Ready to turn in”.
  • Step 9: Apply Settings and save. Launch game.
  • Step 10: Turn in quest, accept next quest and voila.
