How to beat Beppi the Clown (boss) from Cuphead.

Tips Before Fighting

Before fighting Beppi the Clown, I recommend getting the roundabout and the lobber shots. I personally only needed the roundabout, but having both weapons really help. If you have both these shots, set one as shot B and one as shot A. Then switch between them constantly during the fight. A lot of people already know about this, but if you didn’t then you do now.

Another thing I would recommend is the smoke bomb. It’s useful at the start as you won’t have to worry about the ducks above. With all that said, let’s get into the guide.

Phase One

Phase One of this boss battle is rather simple. Just jump over (or dash through, if you have the smoke bomb) his cart when it comes at you. If you don’t have the smoke bomb, you’ll have to hit the ducks that fly above before you jump. Make sure to also avoid the occasional light bulb that some ducks with throw at you.
That’s really all phase one has to offer.

Phase Two

In phase two, Beppi the Clown turns into a giant balloon and creates balloon dogs that try to attack you. If that wasn’t enough, there’s also a roller coaster train that will come past occasionally.

Don’t let the thought of that daunt you. This phase is actually really easy when you get the hang of it.
Avoid the brown balloon dogs as they pop when they hit the floor, and parry the pink ones to fill up your super (I recommend saving your super for the final phase). Shoot upwards to hit Beppi’s head as that’s the only place you can hit in this phase, and when the train comes past keep up with Beppi (still avoiding the balloons) and jump over the passengers.

It might sound intense, but it’s not. Trust me, you’ll get the hang of it.

This phase is good for filling up your super meter. There are a lot of pink dogs to parry, and you can parry the nose of the train (It’s hard to see, but it’s there). A full super meter really helps with the final stage.

Phase Three

In Beppi’s third phase, he jumps on a horse. The horse will come down from either the right or left side, and it can be golden or green. If the green horse comes down, get under it and shoot upwards. This means you’ll be doing a lot of damage and avoiding his attacks. Watch out for the roller coaster train, though (yes, it’s in this phase too). If the golden horse comes down, duck under the golden horse shoes that it spits out, then find the gap in them when they come to the top of the screen before they drop down. Do that while doing as much damage to the boss as you can.

Final Phase

This phase is the hardest for me personally. Don’t let that stop you from trying though! In this phase Beppi transforms into a fair ride. At the start of the phase, jump on a platform and use your super on Beppi to take away a lot of health. Then jump from platform to plaform to avoid the train, which goes much faster now. Beppi will then spit out a bunch of penguins. These will launch tennis balls at you, so avoid those and kill the penguins as fast as you can, or wait for the train to do it. Keep using your ex moves when they recharge to kill Beppi as fast as you can, then eventually, Beppi will be finished.
